History of Wilson Airport
Named after an affluent lady who established the airstrip in 1929, Wilson Airport is the closest airport to central Nairobi – 2.5 miles away. The airfield at Wilson primarily helps navigate take-offs and landings for private jet travelers. Working your way through traffic at Jomo International can get time-consuming, so several corporate flyers and tourists prefer using Wilson Airport. The most popular destinations from Wilson include Mombasa, Lamu, Masai Mara, and Kilimanjaro.
Wilson Airport Terminals and Services
The KCCA acknowledges the imbalance between the facilities and the passengers at the airfield. Initially designed to intake only 500K passengers annually, the number has doubled in recent times, calling for a renovation at the facility. The single terminal is unable to sustain the influx of passengers. A flight training school is also located on the premises. For helicopter charters, Lady Lori is an FBO service present on ground. Tradewinds Aviation Services can also be employed as handlers in charge of freight.
