History of Mombasa Moi International Airport
Considered the best African airport by the International AC, the Moi International Airport has come far. Its story began during the Second World War when the South African military constructed the airstrip for their convenience. Formerly called the Port Reitz Airport, the airfield welcomed the international community in 1980. It takes 20 minutes to drive to central Mombasa from Moi’s passenger terminals.
Mombasa Moi Airport Terminal and Services
The two terminals at the airport cater to international and domestic flights separately – Terminal 1 for the former and terminal 2 for the latter. They are both constructed adjacently, allowing easy access to each other. Even though executive lounges – Safari Comfort & Safari VIP are present in Terminal 1, there are no functional rooms to hold conferences. However, the coast is dotted with several hotels which provide such amenities. The Pall Lounge provides showering facilities in case of a layover, etc.
